<p>The reproduction (08) MPEG signals from a disk medium (10) in trick play modes may be achieved without increasing decoded picture memory size. The picture memory (60C, 60D) is configured as frame storage in a play mode and in trick play modes is arranged for field storage. Picture prediction in trick play modes is derived from a stored field hence motion vectors may require modification accordingly. Motion vectors are adaptively modified or substituted responsive to encoded picture type or adjacent block similarity. The disk medium (10) may include motion vectors for use during normal and trick play modes. Alternatively, the disk may include motion vectors constrained to predict from the same field as that stored.</p> |
