摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a colorant which can give an optical recording medium excellent in characteristics of recording and reproducing with a short-wavelength semiconductor laser by forming a chelate compound from an azo compound having a fluorine-type substituent and a metal. SOLUTION: An azo compound of formula I is used. In the formula, ring A is a substituted nitrogen-containing monocyclic heterocyclic ring; ring B is a substituted aromatic ring; Y is an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; at least one of the substituents of rings A and/or B is a fluorine substituent; and the total number of the fluorine atoms contained in the substituents of rings A and B is at least 2. The heterocyclic ring represented by ring A is desirably an aromatic heterocyclic ring, especially, triazole. The aromatic ring represented by ring B is particularly desirably a benzene ring. The metal which forms a chelate compound together with an azo compound is particularly desirably Ni, Co, or Cu.
