The present invention relates to a novel DDRT-PCR method of detecting genes expressed in tissues, especially in mutant tissues such as murine w/w. The present invention also relates to novel genes detected by such method, including an Alzheimer-associated beta -amyloid protein or ERAB. Murine ERAB is a 260 amino acid polypeptide which is upregulated in the mutant testicular Leydig cells. The present invention also relates to a nucleic acid coding for such polypeptide, nucleic acids which hydridize under high stringency to such nucleic acid sequence, vectors, host cells, methods of expressing the nucleic acid sequence, and antibodies thereto. The nucleic acid and polypeptide are useful, e.g. as markers for testicular development.
