<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable length decoder without the danger of hang-up and without the need of status check. SOLUTION: A variable length decoder 21 is composed of a main body 21a, a data port 21b, a time out port 21c and a timer 21d. A wait signal is made to be active, a timer is reset and the decoding of a variable length code is started against the read request to the data port 21b. A time out generation signal TO is made to be active after prescribed time passes. When the decoding of the variable length code terminates, a decoding result is sent to the data port 21b, a first value is set in the time out port 21c and the wait signal is made to be inactive. When the time out generation signal becomes active before the decoding of the variable length code terminates, a second value is set in the time out port 21c and the wait signal is made to be inactive and the decoding of the variable length code is terminated.</p> |
