The alternator/starter motor (1) has a stator (5) and a rotor (6), and is of the type designed to supply electrical energy to onboard equipment of an engine (4) and to drive the engine at the time of starting. The alternator (1) is driven by the engine. The electrical energy consuming part is integrated inside the alternator, and is driven by the engines crankshaft (7). An air conditioning compressor (9) driven by the engine crankshaft (7) is radially fitted inside the stator and rotor. The stator is cooled by the fluid circulating in front and behind the compressor.
