Automotive drum brake with leading and trailing shoes

An automotive drum brake (1) has a pair of brake shoes (3,4) operating as leading and trailing shoes. During the brake application, the operating mechanism operates in a dual servo mode. A first lever, a balance and a second lever operated by the hand brake are all fitted to one of the brake shoes. The second lever has an activation section, a lever contact section and a balance contact section. The activation section is acted on by the hand brake lever. The lever contact section applies torque to the first lever. The balance contact section applies torque to the balance. When operated, the second lever turns the first lever and then the balance.
