A compound of formula (I) where A is a bidentate group of formula -CH2-X-CH2- (wherein X is methylene, sulphur or oxygen), X'C=CY or X'WC-CYZ (wherein X', W, Y and Z are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxy, R<6>C(O)O, alkoxy, trialkylsilyloxy, cyano or halogen, or X' and W or Y and Z together with the carbon to which they are attached form a carbonyl group); Ar is optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted heteroaryl; R is hydrogen, cyano, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heteroaryl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, R<3>CO, sulphonyl, CS2R<9> or R<7>X'' (where X'' represents oxygen or a group NR<8>), provided that when R is optionally substituted alkenyl or optionally substituted alkynyl, said group does not have an unsaturated carbon atom bonding directly to the ring nitrogen of formula (I); R<1> is hydrogen, cyano, hydroxy, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, amino, nitro, isocyanato, optionally substituted heteroaryl, amidoximido, HN=C(R<4>), R<4>R<5>C=N, R<10>CO, R<10>CONH, optionally substituted alkenyl or optionally substituted alkynyl; R<2> is C1-2 alkyl; R<3> is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkenyloxy, optionally substituted aryloxy or NH2; R<4>, R<5>, R<7> and R<8> are, independently, hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heteroaryl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, alkoxycarbonyl or CO2H; R<6> is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkenyloxy or optionally substituted aryloxy; R<9> is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted alkenyl; R<10> is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkenyloxy, optionally substituted aryloxy or NH2; or an acid addition salt, quaternary ammonium salt or N-oxide derived therefrom, processes for preparing these compounds, compositions comprising them and methods of using them to combat or control insects, acarines, nematodes or molluscs.
