CRYOGENIC CRYSTAL TRANSFER DEVICE

A device for transporting cryocooled crystals from a storage vessel to a goniometer consists of a dewar which has a crystal holder attached to it and which can hold a crystal, preferably mounted on a crystal mounting, and an outlet which directs a stream of liquid nitrogen over a mounted crystal, the mounting can be oriented to position the crystal in the correct position and includes spring loaded jaws which can grip the crystal mounting and so enable it to be picked up and released. When the mounting is the screw cap of a vial containing the crystal there can optionally be a secondary base which can fit in the jaws and can be used to locate the cap in the jaws and in the goniometer and the jaws are stepped to engage with the cap to facilitate screwing and unscrewing oof the cap.
