Optical glass contains specified amounts of boron oxide, lanthanum oxide, yttrium oxide, silicon oxide, lithium oxide, calcium oxide, zinc oxide, and one of gadolinium oxide and zirconium oxide. An optical glass contains (wt.%): 25-42 boron oxide, 14-30 lanthanum oxide, 2-13 yttrium oxide, 2-20 silicon oxide, 2-9 lithium oxide, 0.5-20 calcium oxide, 2-20 zinc oxide, 0-8 gadolinium oxide and 0-8 zirconium oxide, the total amount for these being 90%. The glass additionally contains (wt.%): 0-5 sodium oxide, 0-5 potassium oxide, 0-5 magnesium oxide, 0-5 strontium oxide, 0-10 barium oxide, 0-5 tantalum oxide, 0-5 aluminum oxide, 0-5 ytterbium oxide, 0-5 niobium oxide, 0-2 arsenic oxide and 0-2 antimony oxide.
