The bed vessel (4) contains a bed (10) of particulate material with fluidising air flowing through the nozzles (9) to burn fuel supplied through a conduit (11). Outside the building (1) is a liquid nitrogen storage tank (50), a gasifier (51) and a buffer tank (52) with compressed nitrogen gas. Should sudden load release or other operational disturbance occur, then the closing of the valve (25) in the gas supply conduit (20) and a valve (26) in the output conduit (24) from the compressor (22) to the turbine (21), isolates the turbine (21) and the compressor (22), from the bed vessel (4). At the same time a bypass valve (31) opens between compressor and turbine and combustion air is blown off to atmosphere via blow-off valves (33-35). From the buffer tank (52) nitrogen is introduced to the bed vessel (4) and the space (7) between the pressure vessel (3) and the bed vessel (4), preventing flow of combustion air from the space (7) to the bed. |
