PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject nonwoven fabric giving an activated carbon nonwoven fabric having high density, strength and flatness and useful for a polarizable electrode, air-cleaning filter, etc., by stitching a nonwoven fabric mat of phenolic resin fiber with a yarn composed of a phenolic resin fiber. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric is produced by stitching a nonwoven fabric mat of a phenolic resin fiber having a diameter of 5-20 μm (preferably having an apparent density of 0.05-0.5 g/cm<3> ) with a yarn such as a filament yarn or a spun yarn of a phenolic resin fiber (the denier number is preferably 75-800 d). Preferably, the nonwoven fabric mat is stitched at a stitch distance of 0.9-5.1 mm in the wale direction and a stitch length of 0.7-5.0 mm in the flow direction, the stitch bond nonwoven fabric is carbonized and activated to produce an activated carbon nonwoven fabric having a specific surface area of 600-3,200 m<2> /g and the activated carbon nonwoven fabric is used for the production of a polarizable electrode and an air-cleaning filter. |
