PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce discharge starting voltage, and improve reliability by forming a dielectric layer in a prescribed area between the opposed projecting parts of line electrodes, that is, the part except on a discharge gap. SOLUTION: Paired line electrodes X, Y are composed of the main body part extending in the display line direction and the projecting parts opposed by sandwiching a discharge gap G. The paired line electrodes X, Y, a dielectric layer 4 covering the line electrodes X, Y and a protective layer 5 covering the dielectric layer 4 and being composed MgO are formed on a front glass substrate 1 being the display surface side. Since the dielectric layer 4 is not formed between the opposed projecting parts (transparent electrodes 2, 2) of the line electrodes X, Y, the discharge gap G in a discharge space 8 approaches the paired line electrodes X, Y, or when voltage is impressed, a line of electric force appears in the discharge space 8. As a result, since an electric field is generated around the respective projecting parts, density of an equipotential line is enhanced in the discharge gap G to increase electric field strength so as to reduce discharge starting voltage. |
