PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method which can form the central hole for transmitting torque or the groove of the peripheral part of a rotary heat exchange member comprising a ceramic honeycomb structure such as an EGR cooler easily and inexpensively. SOLUTION: In the production of a honeycomb structure of a ceramic such as cordierite, when an extruded honeycomb raw material 12' kept flexibility, a punch 68 is used to form a central hole or a groove by pressing, or when an extruded honeycomb raw material 12' is soft after drying, the central hole or the groove is formed by pressing with an inexpensive general purpose tool.
