PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as an inhibitor for a matrix metalloprotease(MMP) group. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each H, a 2-6C alkenyl or the like; R<3> is H, a 1-6C alkyl or the like; R<4> , R<5> , R<7> and R<8> are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C alkoxy, CN or a halogen; R<6> is H, an aryl or the like; (n) is 0-2; X is a 1-6C alkylene; Y is a direct bond, CH=CH or the like) such as N-hydroxy 2-[methyl (phenethyl) amino] sulfonylacetamide. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by treating a compound of formula II (Z is Cl, Br, a 1-3C alkyloxy or the like) with hydroxylamine preferably in an excessive amount equal to or smaller than three times as much as the compound, in the case in which Z is the 1-3C alkyloxy, in a proper solvent at a room temperature to about 85 deg.C. The compound is useful for treating diseases such as atherosclerotic plaque transection, cardiac failure, restenosis, periodontal diseases, tissue ulcer, tumor metastasis, etc.
