Methods for accurately, conveniently and specifically assaying an antibody against a source of infection contained in a body fluid. More particularly speaking, a method for immunologically assaying an antibody by effecting an antigen-antibody reaction between the target antibody in a specimen and an antigen in the presence of a component originating in Escherichia coli; and a method for assaying an antibody by using as an antibody-detecting reagent one having a binding specificity to the Fc region of the antibody IgG.
