A battery pack,especially for a battery-driven electric tool, has a plus-contact (10), a minus-contact (6) and a control contact (8) that is connected via a temperature- dependent control element (16) to one of the two other contacts inside the battery. It has a coding device (22) by means of which, and by using a control circuit (28) in a charging apparatus (4), it can be recognised what sort of battery pack is involved if the battery pack is connected to the charging apparatus for charging purposes. The coding device is connected to the control contact and via this can be connected across the control circuit of a charging apparatus
