A roll separation assembly (10) for separating adjacent rolls (100) on conveyors carrying roll workpieces is disclosed. The roll separation assembly includes first (11) and second (12) conveyors for receiving a plurality of roll workpieces positioned adjacent to one another. An elevator (83) angularly positions one of the conveyors relative to the other conveyor, thereby providing a separation space between adjacent rolls.
