PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjusting device for a multi-plate type electronic camera which shortens a focusing time in contrast type automatic focusing without spoiling high picture quality. SOLUTION: At the time of focusing position detection, a parallel plate 22 is put in the luminous flux between the projection surface 4b of a prism 4 and a 2nd image pickup element 8. The integral value of the contrast when a focus lens is at each position in the optical axis is found by using the electric signal of a 1st image pickup element 5 and the electric signal of the 2nd image pickup element 8 corresponding to the luminous flux whose the optical path length is extended by putting the parallel plate 22 in and the focusing position is detected from the relation between the focus lens position and the contrast integral value. |
