PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a read signal generator capable of removing a crosstalk component almost completely from an adjacent track, and improving the S/N ratio of a read signal. SOLUTION: In the optical path of a reflected light from the optical recording medium of a read signal illuminating an optical disk 1 where a plurality of pit rows for carrying recorded information are recorded, there are arranged a reflected light separating element 215 for separating the reflected light into almost the center part of the luminous flux of the reflected light and a part other than the center part, a photodetector 209 for receiving the center part of a reflected light supplied via the reflected light separating element 215, and a photodetector 207 for receiving a peripheral part other than the center part of the reflected light supplied via the reflected light separating element 215. An output from a calculator 30 for calculating a difference in outputs between the photodetectors 209 and 207 is used as a read signal. |
