PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light efficiency of a projector and to realize three- dimensional picture projection. SOLUTION: Light is made incident on a polarized beam splitter 12 from a light source 10 and is separated into first polarized light and second polarized light by the polarized beam splitter 12, and they are made incident on first and second color slitters 22 and 24. The first color splitter 22 separates the first polarized light into R, G, and B components, and these components are modulated by first, second, and third reflecting light valves 30, 32, and 34 and are reflected. The second color splitter 24 separates the second polarized light into R, G, and B components, and these components are modulated by fourth, fifth, and sixth reflecting light valves 40, 42, and 44 and are reflected. First and second modulated polarized light are synthesized through first and second color splitters 22 and 24 and the polarized beam splutter 12 and are made incident on an objective lens 70. |
