The manufacturing method has a sensor element (6) with its associated electrical leads (7,8,14,15) applied to an automobile windscreen (1), at least one of the electrical leads incorporating a pre-resistance (11) with a resistance value which is varied, e.g. by laser machining, until the required overall resistance of the pre-resistance and the electrical leads is attained, after the rain sensor (2) is mounted on the windscreen. An Independent claim for a rain sensor applied to an automobile windscreen is also included.
