Preparation of polymer with repeat succinyl units comprises mixing the derivative of an optionally substituted 1,4-butanedicarboxylic acid or butenedicarboxylic acid with ammonium (hydrogen) carbonate in the melt at 60-100 degrees C, together with a catalyst, heating to the prereaction temperature of 120-145 degrees C, polymerization by heating to up to 300 degrees C and removing the water of reaction. |
