The chips for chip cards are usually placed on a strip of film consisting of a plastic film and a conductor pattern and connected to said conductor pattern with bonding wires. The use of a strip of film with periodically mounted conductor patterns enables the components to be fitted automatically. For chips which can be controlled via contacts as well as without contacts via a coil, it is advantageous if conductors are arranged on both sides of the plastic film which forms the strip. However, the strip of film becomes very inflexible as a result and cannot be properly processed by the usual automatic machines. To this end, additional breaks are provided in the metal foils from which the conductors are punched. Said additional breaks reduce the cross-section of the metal foils vertically in relation to the longitudinal direction of the film, at short intervals. This produces a more flexible strip of film which can be processed in the usual machines.
