The gas pressure regulator has a housing (11) in which a first chamber (12.1) and a second chamber (12.2) are formed. Gas flows successively through the two chambers. A first regulator valve (17.1) is arranged in the first chamber to regulate the gas flow through this chamber. The valve body is in operative connection with a first regulator device. The latter controls the valve body in dependence on the gas pressure in the first chamber (12.1). A second regulator valve (17.2) is arranged in the second chamber to regulate the gas flow through this chamber. The second valve body is in operative connection with a second regulator device. The latter controls the valve body in dependence on the gas pressure in the second chamber (12.2). The second regulator valve (17.2) closes when the gas pressure in the first chamber (12.1) exceeds a predetermined threshold value. Preferably the second regulator valve has a valve seat which is adjusted in dependence on the gas pressure in the first chamber.
