The invention relates to a device for controlling the closure of a closing unit, especially a door or such like, of an object (1, 2), especially a motor vehicle (1), a building (2) or such like, by means of an electronic key (16, 7) whose transmitter (8, 15) communicates within a defined physical area with a receiver (5, 14) attached to the object (1, 2). The object (1, 2) is also fitted with a transmitter (9, 17) which communicates with a receiver (11). Said receiver (11) is integrated into a closure detection unit (10) which is physically separate from the object (1, 2), configured as a separate component and has a memory for the locking state of the at least one closing unit (3, 12). A signal reproducing element (20, 21, 22) of the closure detection unit (10), which is configured as a key ring (23), indicates the locking state of the closing unit (3, 12) when an actuating element (19) is activated.
