PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sliding member capable of maintaining a low frictional amount and a low friction coefficient under a high pressure dry gas atmosphere and useful as a packing material for a high pressure dry gas compressor, etc., by mixing a carbon fiber, a graphite powder adjusted to have a specific grain size or smaller and a resin in a specific ratio, and subjecting the mixture to thermal compression molding. SOLUTION: This sliding member for a dry gas is obtained by mixing (A) preferably 20-50 wt.% carbon fiber having 10-15 μm diameter and cut to 2-4 mm length, (B) preferably 5-20 wt.% graphite powder adjusted to have <=40 μm grain size and obtained by blending 50-300 pt.wt. natural graphite based on 100 pts.wt. artificial graphite, and (C) preferably 30-75 wt.% resin obtained by adding one or more kinds of thermosetting resins such as an epoxy resin, etc., and subjecting the mixture to thermal compression molding. The member is useful as a piston ring, a rider ring, a rod packing, etc. |
