PURPOSE:To prevent a sudden change in steering force due to a sudden change in vehicle speed detected by a sensor by detecting conditions of acceleration, deceleration and constant speed of a vehicle, and setting as controlled vehicle speed a vehicle speed composed of a controlled vehicle speed to which a predetermined amount of speed is added every predetermined period of time. CONSTITUTION:Using a control device 7 to which an engine speed signal (a) and a vehicle speed signal (b) yielded by a vehicle speed sensor 2 are input, a power steering device controls transmission of electricity to a solenoid valve 11 and controls an amount of oil flow supplied from and discharged to an oil pump 3 to (from) a control valve 12, thereby generating a steering force corresponding to vehicle speed. In this case, the control device 7 detects conditions of acceleration, deceleration and constant speed of a vehicle from changes in current vehicle speed data from previous vehicle speed data and during acceleration a vehicle speed composed of a controlled vehicle speed to which a predetermined amount of speed is added every predetermined period of time is set as controlled vehicle speed, while during deceleration a vehicle speed composed of a controlled vehicle speed from which a predetermined amount of speed is subtracted every predetermined period of time is set as controlled vehicle speed and the controlled speed is not varied for the duration of constant speed. |
