Treatment of the surface of a gray iron component

The gray iron component surface is treated after grinding, during IC component fabrication. Treatment of a surface of a component of gray iron made up of a metallic matrix covering some graphite particles, after a grinding of the surface such that the component incorporates a superficial layer of hammered metal, comprises sweeping the surface of the component with a continuous laser beam, to recast the superficial layer of hammered metal over a depth of 3 to 10 microns and relieve the graphite particles covered at least partially by the superficial layer after grinding, restoring these graphite particles flush with the surface of the component.
