The invention relates to an exchangeable filter unit for insertion into the housing of a filter system. Said filter unit has the following features: (a) the filter unit is provided with a carrier component which is designed to hold the filter unit in the housing and which has a first side and an opposite second side, said first side being provided for assembly facing the clean gas chamber of the housing; (b) a plurality of individual, hollow filter elements, which each have an outer afflux surface for fluid to be filtered and an open surface area for filtered fluid from the interior of the filter element to drain off, is linked to the carrier component in such a manner that the filter elements are located substantially and completely on the second side of the carrier component and utilize the space on the second side of the carrier component efficiently; (c) the filter elements have an inherent stability and are made up of porous baked particles; (d) the filter elements and the carrier component are joined in such a manner that the filter elements are joined by a cast resin which covers the exterior of the filter elements at a height of at least 1 cm each and narrows the open surfaces of the filter elements to a very low degree and preferably the cast resin at the same time constitutes the carrier component of the filter unit.
