The gas insulated switchgear (GIS) has at least one phase conductor (1) and a housing (2, 3, 4, 5) surrounding this. It has a first metallic housing part (3, 4) also a second gas tight and insulating housing part (3, 5). The second housing part (3, 5) is made of plastic, and is arranged without immediate space on the first housing part (2, 4), and gives to the housing the required amount of stiffness for the operation.The second housing part (3, 5) surrounds the first housing part (2, 4) as a sleeve. The second housing part (3, 5) has an impregnated woven strip for reinforcement. The first housing part (4) has an open porous metal weave and the second housing part (5) consists of a plastic body penetrating the first housing part (4)
