摘要 PURPOSE: The titled anhydrous electrorheological fluids used for effectively controlling electrorheological devices such as shock absorber, damper, clutch, engine mount and valve and prepared by dispersing chitosan phosphate microparticles coated with an organic amine compound in base fluids and process for production thereof are provided, which have excellent electrical, rheological, physiochemical and mechanical characteristics such as high yield stress, low current density, abrasion resistance, dispersion, fast response, high temperature stability and biodegradability. CONSTITUTION: Chitosan phosphate microparticles having a film thickness of 0.5 to 5 micrometer obtained by phosphorylation of chitosan with an aqueous solution of a phosphorous compound and nitrogen compound at 30 to 60deg.C for 0.5 to 3 hr and heat treatment of the reactant at 120 to 170deg.C for 0.5 to 3 hr are coated with an organic amine compound and dried and then 10 to 50% by volume of the chitosan phosphate microparticles are mixed with 50 to 90% by volume of base fluids at 50 to 80deg.C to produce the titled anhydrous electrorheological fluids having a particle size of 5 to 30 micrometer. The chitosan phosphate has a phosphorous content of 3 to 15% by weight, a nitrogen content of 3.0 to 8.0% by weight and a particle size of 1 to 50 micrometer.
