The wall thickness (dR) of the body (16) at the ridges (24,26) equals that (dK) of the adjacent sections (28). An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of manufacture comprising extrusion of an endless blank, forming ridges and separation of individual blanks which are then closed at one end. PREFERRED FEATURES:- There is a ridge (24,26) both on the internal and external circumferential surfaces (20,22) of the body. The closed end has a grip (40) formed by two plane wall sections extending parallel to the central axis (44) and bonded flatly together. It has a textured pattern. The grip has a hole at right-angles to the central axis. The plug has a stop collar around its outer surface. The plug is extruded and a line of grease is applied around the circumferential surface (20,22) facing the connection (12,14) and near to the ridges. Walls are joined to form the grip e.g. by pressing while still hot from the mold, forming the outer textured grip profile at the same time. Separation is by stamping or cutting. A metering valve applies the grease.
