摘要 A thermistor element has a sintered body consisting of a low electrical resistance perovskite compound and high electrical resistance aluminum oxide. A thermistor element comprises a sintered (M1M2)O3-Al2O3 or (M1M2)O3-Al2O3-Y2O3 body consisting of a (M1M2)O3, Al2O3 and optionally Y2O3, where M1 = one or more group 2A or 3A elements except La and M2 = one or more group 2B, 3B, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A or 8 elements. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a temperature sensor comprising the above thermistor element; (ii) production of the above thermistor element by calcining to obtain (M1M2)O3 of mean particle size greater than that of the Al2O3, mixing and grinding the (M1M2)O3, Al2O3 and optionally Y2O3 and then moulding and sintering; (iii) production of the above thermistor element by mixing and grinding the M1 and M2 source materials to /}0.5 mu mean particle size, calcining to obtain (M1M2)O3, mixing the (M1M2)O3 with Al2O3 and optionally Y2O3 and then moulding and sintering; (iv) production of the above (M1M2)O3-Al2O3-Y2O3 thermistor element by providing the Y2O3 in the M1 starting material in process (ii) or (iii); (v) production of a thermistor element by forming a liquid mixture of metal compound precursors, adding a metal salt precipitant to form a gelatinous precipitate of metal salts, drying and heat treating to form a powder starting material and then sintering; (vi) production of a thermistor element by forming a liquid mixture of metal compound precursors, forming a powder starting material from the liquid mixture and then sintering; (vii) a temperature sensor comprising a thermistor element produced by the above process (v), the grain size of the sintered body being less than 1 mu ; (viii) production of the above (M1M2)O3-Al2O3-Y2O3 thermistor element by forming a liquid mixture of M1, M2 and Y compound precursors and a complexing agent, reacting to form a complex compound, adding a polymerization medium to form a polymer, drying and heat treating to form a powder starting material and then sintering; (ix) production of a thermistor element, having a thermistor region (13) with a reduction inhibiting surface layer (14), by applying a reduction inhibiting material precursor on the thermistor region surface and then firing; and (x) a temperature sensor comprising a thermistor region (13) with a reduction inhibiting surface layer (14) and a pair of electrical conductors (11, 12) which pass through the layer for electrically contacting the thermistor region, the reduction inhibiting material being an electrically insulating material with an electrical resistance greater than that of the thermistor material.
