The needle swing is set and constant. To form the button hole edge stitching (27'), table and needle co- or counter-oscillate at the same frequency. Preferred features: An input device, e.g. a keypad connected to the controller, is used to enter stitch parameters. From these, a computer determines appropriate X,Y path coordinates for the table, to achieve the required stitch width (a). A selector sets the machine into pre- or post buttonhole-cutting mode. X and Y path coordinates computed, allow for required button hole slitting clearance (b) and for overall width of stitching (B).
