The method involves determining the required fuel injection quantity for a two-stroke internal combustion engine from the air mass flow which the engine sucks in via an induction path with an input air filter and an output choke flap. The absolute pressure is measured in the induction path between the filter ands choke for every working cycle; a first time window is selected from the measured non-static pressure variation; the part of the pressure variation within the window is integrated to derive a load pressure. The start and duration of injection are derived from the load pressure and the ambient air pressure.
