The lamp operating circuit has a DC/AC converter (T1, T2) supplying the lamp operating voltage, coupled to a DC voltage supply, with a regulator (R) controlling the DC voltage supplied to the DC/AC converter, in dependence on a setting signal from a dimmer control (D). Pref. an output capacitor is connected in parallel with the output of the DC voltage supply, with one input of the regulator coupled to the dimmer control and a second input connected in parallel with the output capacitor.
