PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter which is improved in reliability by preventing the occurrence of element breakage by suppressing the occurrence of an excessively large current, when the capacitor of a snubber circuit is charged. SOLUTION: The input terminal of a single-phase bridge is connected to both ends of bidirectional switching means 1061-1069, and rectifier type snubber circuits 1051-1059 connected to a capacitor are provided. The voltage across both ends of the capacitor, is fixed by monitoring the voltage by means of an automatic voltage regulator 104, or the amplitude difference between the voltage across both ends of the capacitor and the voltage of an AC power source 101 is maintained at a set value or lower, by monitoring the voltage across both ends of the capacitor and the voltage of the power source 101 by means of the regulator 104. |
