A water soluble or water dispersible dispersing agent

A water soluble or water dispersible dispersing agent is obtained by the partial esterification of at least one polyacid and at least one polyether. A water soluble or water dispersible dispersing agent for cement compositions and aqueous mineral particle suspensions, containing polyether chains and optionally partly or totally salified carboxylic functions is obtained by base catalyzed partial esterification involving the reaction of: (a) at least one polycarboxylic acid containing at least 6 carboxylic functions per molecule obtained by the polymerization of at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid; and (b) at least one polyether containing a free hydroxyl group which can react with a carboxylic function. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method of preparing said agent; (2) a combination of dispersing agents containing said agent; (3) an additive containing said agent; and (4) the use of said agent in cement and mineral particle suspensions as, e.g. a fluidizer.
