PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal separator for a low-temperature fuel cell with high acid resistance, high conductivity, and less generation of Joule heat caused by contact resistance. SOLUTION: This separator has a deposit layer 14 of SiC, B4 C, TiO2 , or the like formed on a stainless steel substrate 13 via a diffusion layer 15. The deposit layer 14 is formed, in such a way that a coating film in which the compound particles are dispersed is formed on the substrate surface, and heated in an non-oxidizing atmosphere of 300-1,100 deg.C to decompose and remove the coating film components. Prior to heat treatment, the stainless steel substrate 13 of which the coating film is formed may be rolled. Since the contact resistance of the separator is low, even when many cells are stacked, the generation of Joule heat which causes heat loss is suppressed, and the separator can be formed in a required shape by press forming, punching work, or the like.
|
