The book binding production line has a number of book binding machines (A, B) and a buffer storage system for books or brochures, which can be transferred between the assembly line and the buffer storage system (11), when a blockage in the product flow is caused by an interruption in operation of a subsequent machine. The products are stacked in the buffer storage system, with removal of the bottom product from the stack for return to the production line.
