The elastic sealing ring is inserted into the duct through an inlet (3) in the instrument (10). The diameter of the circular hole (33a) is smaller than the external diameter of the sheath (11) of the instrument. The seal (33) is enclosed by an element (30) which compresses it from opposite sides to close the hole. A gap between the outer periphery of the seal and the adjacent element is formed in a direction at right angles to the direction in which the seal is pressed together.
