In a filter capsule containing two cartridge-like filter inserts, fluid passes from the core of the first filter insert through the filter material and to a chamber (17) which extends to the area around the second filter. Fluid then passes through the outer wall of the second filter to the core and outlet (7). The chamber (17) has a tap-controlled outlet (19) for the removal of samples revealing if the first filter (10) is defective. A filter capsule (1) holds two cartridge-like filter inserts, which filter liquids or gases in accordance with specific safety requirements. The capsule (1) housing (2) has a fluid inlet (6) and filtrate outlet (7), and is made up of two housing sections (3, 4), each of which has a filter insert cartridge (10, 14). The first cartridge (14) is closed at one end (15), the other end (12) being open to a tube (13) supplying the outlet (7). The second cartridge (10) is closed at one end (11), the other end (8) being open to a tube (9) from the inlet (6).
