PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for making a transition from high speed rotation mode to low speed rotation mode or from various rotation modes to stop mode. SOLUTION: The scanner motor 109 comprises a DC scanner motor 101, a polygon mirror 122 fixed to the rotary shaft of the DC scanner motor 101 in order to reflect laser light 125 from a semiconductor laser unit 107 toward a photosensitive drum 106, a motor driver 117 for controlling rotation of the DC scanner motor 101, and a solenoid 120. The solenoid 120 for suppressing rotation of the DC scanner motor 101 is driven at the time of transition from rotation mode to stop mode and from high speed rotation mode to low speed rotation mode of the DC scanner motor 101 to apply a load directly to the rotary shaft thereof. |
