<p>Label apparatus (1) comprising a roll mounting device for mounting a supply roll (41) of label material, and a web pulling device (47) for pulling the web (W) from the supply roll (41) in a forward direction. The web pulling device (47) is operable to exert intermittent pulls on the web (W) with dwells between successive pulls. A web accumulator (81) is located between the roll mounting device and the web pulling device (47) for accumulating a surplus of web (W). The web accumulator (81) includes a rotatable wheel and two generally parallel dancer rollers extending out from the wheel for engagement by the web as it travels from the supply roll to the web pulling device (47). A spring device rotates the wheel in a first direction during the dwells of the web pulling device (47) to increase accumulated surplus. The wheel rotates in a second opposite direction when the web pulling device pulls on the web (W), thereby causing a decrease in the accumulated surplus of web (W).</p> |
