1475556 1,1,2,3,4,4 - Hexabromobutene - 2 TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 10 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 53423/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Crystalline 1,1,2,3,4,4 - hexabromobutene - 2 containing 85-95% wt. of the trans isomer and 5-15% wt. of the cis isomer can be prepared by the bromination of diacetylene by contacting a gas stream containing 20-50 mole per cent of diacetylene in an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, with a dilute solution of bromine in an inert solvent, e.g. water or carbon tetrachloride and separating the hexabromobutene by filtration from a product mixture comprising 75-80% wt. of the hexabromobutene, 15-23% wt. of 1,1,2,4 - tetrabromobutene - 2 and small amounts of dibromobutadienes. |
