A self-adjusting voltage filtering method compensating for dynamic errors of CVTs is provided to change the CVT by constantly adjusting a property of a filter through a self-tuning mechanism. A method for compensating for a transient error of a CVT(Capacitive Voltage Transformer) includes the steps of; indicating an initial output voltage(605) of the CVT by a series of digitally encoded samples; generating a digital filter(608) designed based on an equivalent circuit diagram of the CVT; filtering the initial output voltage by using the digital filter; determining a unknown parameter of the equivalent circuit diagram of the CVT, wherein the digital filter is tuned to at least one parameter of the CVT; determining a filter coefficient in response to monitored system disturbance; and self-adjusting the unknown parameter of the digital filter based on the monitored system disturbance.
