PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain mud material having high slag resistance and uniform strength to temp. by incorporating a dense carbon material having a specific porosity and grain size, a binder, a refractory material and a plasticizer into the mud material. SOLUTION: 30 to 60 wt.% dense carbon material having the porosity of <=15% and the grain size of 0.3 to 6 mm, 10 to 25 wt.% binder having a residual carbon rate of >=35%, <=10 wt.% refractory material, plasticizer and, if necessary, pulverized carbon raw material of a grain size <=0.3 mm and <=10 wt.% reactive carbon raw material, such as carbon black having a specific surface area of >=30 m<2> /g are so compounded that the total amt. of the carbon raw material attains <=60 wt.%. As a result, the compounding of a large amt. of the carbon raw materials without increasing the compounding amt. of the binder is made possible. The mud material for closing a blast furnace tap hole, which has excellent corrosion resistance, is free of a strength gap and allows the prolonging of a tapping time while maintaining the density, low shrinkage and high strength, is obtd. |
