<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a 4,4'-type bisphenol in a high selectivity from a phenolic compound and a ketone. SOLUTION: This method for producing a bisphenol is provided by using an acidic cation exchanging resin partially neutralized by an amine having anω-mercaptoalkyl group selected from a group consisting ofω- mercaptoalkylamines having pyridine group substituted by anω-mercaptoalkyl group having a 1-4C alkyl group and anω-mercaptoalkyl group having a 3-4C alkyl group, which is allowed to be substituted by one or two methyl or t-butyl groups as a catalyst, and by supplying a ketone in at least two reaction stages.</p> |
