The tree monitoring probe (1,2) has a threaded stem (12) that is screwed into the tree. The head of the probe is hexagonal (21) for handling purposes and the center of this has an embedded integrated circuit chip and a transponder (14) with a receive and transmit coil (22). Information may be exchanged with, for example, a lap top machine (4). Independent claims are provided for: 1. a method of registration and management, 2. a tree or timber beam.
