The radio receiver has an amplitude setting element for manual adjustment of the reproduction amplitude of the receiver, whereby a device for automatic insertion of traffic announcements is performed with a predefined amplitude. An amplitude sampling and storage device samples the manually adjusted amplitude at the end of an automatically inserted travel announcement, stores it and feeds in the stored amplitude for use as the defined amplitude for automatically inserting the next traffic announcement. An Independent claim is also included for a method of operating the receiver.
